Do I need an account to use BookReader?
No. The reader works fully offline and signing in is entirely optional. Without an account nothing is stored on our servers — the app opens files from your device and keeps your reading data on it.
Are my books uploaded anywhere?
Not during normal use. Your documents are read directly from your device storage. The only exception is cloud backup, which is off by default and applies only to books you explicitly choose to back up.
Which file formats does BookReader open?
PDF, EPUB, Word .docx, plain text and HTML, all in the same reader with shared settings, annotations and progress tracking.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. BookReader is offline-first: your files are read straight from device storage, so reading, highlighting, notes and progress tracking all work with no connection at all.
Can it read documents out loud?
Yes. Read-aloud uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your device, with adjustable voice and speed, and playback continues in the background with notification controls.
Is BookReader free?
Yes. The app is free to download and use, and is supported by banner ads. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland a consent form is shown before personalised ads are used.
How do I delete my account and data?
Open the Profile tab and tap Delete account, or Delete cloud data to clear the synced copy while keeping your account. Full instructions and a breakdown of exactly what each option removes are on the account deletion page.
